Fine beer in an amiable tasting room
Andrea and John here. We started Spark Beer in the year 2020. It wasn't the best year to start a small business, but thanks to Ottawa's amazing people, we are still here and making the best beer we can. We managed to brew (and consume) many tasty beers, meet a few thousand awesome beer fans, and host pop-up events with some great new friends. Quite the year!
2021 is going to bring even more fun beers (including some barrel aged sours), and hopefully more actual-to-goodness-face-to-face-get-togethers. 🤞🏼
Stay safe, stay sour, and stay funky.
xoxo - A&J
Mein Name ist Andrea.
I deliver your beer while listening to beginner German language podcasts. Sometimes, I stop to eat a salad in my car while at the dog park.
The best things are food, wine, and thinking about flavour perception. Also gueuze.
Oh, Hello! I'm John and I helped start this whole thing with my favourite person Andrea ( ⬅️). I like coming up with fun takes on classic beer styles and spending a ridiculous amount of time talking about them to people who may or may not care. And I also like the rock and roll band Devo. And I'm responsible for over 90% of the Twin Peaks beer names. When I'm not at Spark, I'm usually enjoying a beer from one of the other amazing breweries in Ottawa and/or petting dogs and/or enjoying a game of Maniac Mansion on my Commodore 64.
Hi! I’m Kaley. It’s my job to make sure the beer keeps flowing! You’ll find me all over the brewery, from shovelling out spent grain to snapping pics for the 'gram. Before joining the Sparkler family, I was learning about sours in Vancouver and sampling stouts in Hokkaido. When I’m not at the brewery, you’ll find me walking my dog with a cat in my backpack, climbing rocks, or, you know, obsessively washing my hands.
Hello! I'm Robin, sour beer and juicy IPA enthusiast. I love being a part of the Spark family. The brewery is like a second home! Ottawa has proven to be a great place to live if you love a fancy beer in a fancy glass, and I'm spoiled to be around the best of the best brews. I'm also a highly sought after popcorn connoisseur, and I make fantastic vegan chilli. Hit me up if you want the recipe, or if you want to talk about what happened in the movie "Tenet" because I genuinely don't know and I've seen it twice now. XOXO
Howdy! On my 19th birthday I ordered a glass of Brooklyn Brewery’s Black Ops, a bourbon-barrel-aged-champagne-yeast-fermented imperial stout. The silky brew challenged my perception of beer and the rest was history. Since that fateful day, my craft beer knowledge has developed by travelling beer trails, attending festivals, and bartending at breweries in Ottawa, Toronto, and Glasgow. I enjoy immersing myself in the local beer scene and being a member of the growing beer community. You can find me at the tap room at Spark - I’m always on the lookout for the next Sparky Sunday superstar!
Cheers to morning strolls, sourdough bread, and HBO’s Chernobyl!
Hi friends! As a Chinatown local, I was so excited when Spark also chose to make it its home. The space truly reflects its lovely owners and its beers; chill, dynamic, inviting and pretty bad ass! I was sold. Been awesome to learn more about the wonderful world of beer, and the samples don't hurt either! I'm a big fan of sours, good tunes, old pretty objects, road trips and spaghetti. Oh and what's your sign?! Cheers!
Berliner Weisse-style sour wheat ale. Notes of lemon and biscuit with a slight, earthy funk from mixed fermentation. Aged in stainless steel for one month. Named after one of Ottawa’s best people who helped us immensely throughout the last year. Thanks, Ian!
Also available in 500ml bottles.
Session stout fermented with Norwegian Årset Kviek yeast. Roasty with notes of coffee and caramel. Conditioned and poured on nitrogen.
400ml Draft ☕
Our cross between West Coast and East Coast IPAs. A darker, more bitter version of a North East IPA, but with the same soft mouthfeel. Dark orange in colour with a citrus and melon aroma.
